This is another one of the eight posters Chwast and Glaser designed for The Push Pin Style exhibition that opened at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1970 before being presented in seven other locations around the world. Each poster featured the Art Deco-style fan shapes seen here but each composition and color scheme was slightly different. This variant, designed for the 1971 presentation of the exhibition at the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade, then the capital of Yugoslavia in the Socialist Republic of Serbia, is the most austere of the series. This was obviously a big year for American culture in Belgrade; the Newport Jazz Festival, featuring Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and his Orchestra, Ornette Colman’s Quartet, and a “Giants of Jazz” ensemble featuring Thelonius Monk, Art Blakey, and Dizzy Gillespie, also stopped off there on its European tour.
