Chwast designed this poster in 1988 for a musical called The Pancake King based on Phyllis La Farge’s 1971 children’s book of the same name (for which he had designed the illustrations). It tells the story of a little boy who becomes such a talented maker of pancakes that he is soon celebrated as “Henry the Pancake King”—but ultimately decides to focus on the things that really matter.
