This is one of a number of anti-smoking posters that Milton Glaser produced for both the American Cancer Society and the French government over the years. He typically eschewed the standard, grim warnings of the 1960s and ‘70s in favor of striking and unusual compositions in pastel colors. Here, he alerts viewers to the environmental and public hazards posed by cigarette smoke with the figure of a man in a suit smoking a cigarette, his head formed from another cigarette that also serves as a chimney billowing polluting smoke into the natural landscape behind him.
