This is one of many advertisements that Chwast designed for printers, typographers, and color separators (in exchange for production services). It is one of several that he created for the venerable New York reproductive printing firm of Pioneer-Moss incorporating the original logo in a 1920s style composition. Smaller ad versions were published in The Push Pin Graphic. Stanley Tankel, who introduces himself to the young woman from his car window here, took over the firm with Irwin Rothman only in 1964; the 1920s setting here is merely Chwast’s stylish conceit, one emphasizing the company’s long history.
