Chwast’s posters have addressed many public health issues over the course of decades and were often specifically designed to be hung in medical facilities. This one promotes Dawn Farm, a treatment and recovery center for addicts and alcoholics in Michigan; in a simple drawn design he powerfully represents the positive transformation of a patient under treatment as he “gets straight,” moving in three stages from stooped and grim-faced at left to upright and smiling at right.
