Milton Glaser’s surreal design from 1967 was the first of many he created for the new independent record company Poppy Records, established by Kevin Eggers; the label featured singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt, jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, blues singer John Lee Hooker, the pyschedelic/progressive rock band The Mandrake Memorial, and avant-garde composer John Cage, among others. In addition to posters, Glaser created labels and album covers for the brand, many featuring his poppy motif.
