Glaser takes a characteristically irreverent approach to the very serious theme of this anti-tobacco poster commissioned by the French government; here he shows a dove with human legs, unencumbered by the dire effects of tobacco, striding freely in pin-stripe trousers across a cigarette. In his posters on this public health issue, Glaser took an entirely different approach from the designers of the standard compositions of the era featuring skulls, grim warnings, and images of human bodies destroyed by smoking, drawing the viewer’s attention with surreal, colorful motifs that verge on the charming.
