Printed in the lead up to Christmas, this poster announces an annual toy sale organized by the Foundation Louis Lépine, a charitable organization that supports Paris policemen and their families. Lépine had been the governor general of Algeria in the late 1890s as well as the prefect of police in Paris, and, like Charles de Gaulle, had a reputation as a leader who provided stability. At this time, however, de Gaulle had a complicated relationship with the police force, with many of his original supporters no longer fully backing him after he failed to retain Algeria as a colony.
