This is one of seven posters designed by Will H. Bradley to promote The Chap-Book, the “little magazine” initially issued by Stone & Kimball publishers of Chicago in 1894 to publicize its books. His design for The Chap-Book of May 1895, known as “The Pink,” evokes springtime, showing a nude female figure holding cymbals in the manner of a classical dancing faun as she emerges from an abundant bed of pinks. The lower half of her body is partially concealed by the letterforms of the magazine’s title, and the word “May” has virtually disappeared under all the flowers.
