In this promotional poster for Mademoiselle magazine’s August 1969 college issue, Chwast addresses the “smart young woman” who represented the magazine’s target audience; his “exploding” layered typography and fashionable psychedelic colors announce “Explo Campus” to the kind of sophisticated-looking young woman seen facing her modish side-burned male counterpart in the lower register. The annual college issue of Mademoiselle featured the work of college students who had won its Guest Editor Contest. These winners were treated to a trip to New York and a month working on the magazine.
