Victor Gadino’s poster advertises Sidney Lumet’s screen adaption of the stage musical “The Wiz,” featuring an all-Black cast and based on the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. Here he superimposes images of the film’s stars on an illustration of the Emerald City, also reflected in the water below. Gadino has received many awards for his work as a designer of film posters for major Hollywood studios as well as for his designs for corporate and other clients. He is perhaps best known, however, as an illustrator of slightly lurid covers for romance novels.
