This National Safety Council poster showing firefighters attacking a factory blaze reiterates the central message of the organization’s wartime campaign–workplace accidents delay victory. Posters like this one clearly had a considerable impact. In October 1943, the New York Times reported that in spite of a 17 percent increase in man hours worked during the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 1941, the accident rate in munitions plants had been reduced by 42 percent.
