In 1972, the Newport Jazz Festival was moved to New York City from Rhode Island. Milton Glaser produced this humorous if not immediately decipherable poster to mark the occasion. He used the Métropolitaines typeface for the lettering here, one inspired by the Art Nouveau lettering for the signs at the entrances to the Paris Metro designed by Hector Guimard.
