The man in the striped shirt holding a wooden hoop is actually Fred Astaire, photographed as he appeared in a performance of the song “Hoops” in the original 1931 production of The Band Wagon. In the foreground next to Little Orphan Annie is Ethel Merman in the role of Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun (1946).
