In this poster, Chwast promotes the first of four series of the British television production Jeeves & Wooster, shown on PBS between 1990 and 1993. Based on the novels by P.G. Woodhouse, the production concerns the antics of Bertie Wooster (played by Hugh Laurie), a wealthy, charming, and feckless young gentleman who gets into all kinds of scrapes as he witlessly orbits British and New York society of the late 1920s and ’30s; his wise and competent butler, Jeeves (Stephen Fry), is always at hand to discreetly extricate him from any number of misadventures. Here, Chwast humorously represents the inverted power dynamic between master and servant.
