This is one of many posters that Chwast designed in the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s for British television series presented on PBS under the Mystery! and Masterpiece Theatre titles and sponsored by Mobil. This one promotes a series of Rumpole of the Bailey and features lead actor Leo McKern in a design appropriately suggesting a courtroom sketch but one enlivened by two disembodied hands emerging to offer the judge his glasses and a gun labeled “Exhibit A.”
