Chwast was commissioned in 1998 to design this poster promoting the Hague Appeal for Peace, a civil society conference to be held in The Hague in May 1999. It brought government and other organizations together in an attempt to ensure that the unprecedented violence of the 20th century would not define the new millennium. Chwast integrates image and lettering in an eye-catching design, visually reinforcing the peaceful message of the event. Against a black ground, a fighter jet swooping down from the bright-red word “NO” is faced by a peace dove flying up from the yellow word “GO.”
